Friendship Bench DC Featured on NPR and in AARP

Our Friendship Bench DC program was recently featured in two national media outlets, highlighting the impact of this unique community-based mental health model.

NPR’s Morning Edition interviewed HelpAge USA President & CEO Cindy Cox-Roman and Grandparent Tuere Marshall about how Friendship Bench DC is significantly reducing depression through sessions with Grandparents trained to listen with empathy and empower visitors.

Friendship Bench DC was also featured in the most recent AARP Bulletin, which captured the voices of two Grandparent volunteers and the power of simple human connection in supporting emotional wellbeing.

These stories reflect something we see every day: older people playing a vital role in strengthening their communities.
