Older citizen monitoring mobilizes older people to collect data and become advocates for better government services

Older Citizen Monitoring: Achievements and Learning

Older citizen monitoring involves mobilizes older people at a grassroots level to monitor the implementation of policies and services affecting their lives. They then leverage this evidence to advocate for change at local, national and international levels. Developed by HelpAge International and piloted with funding from the UK Department for International Development (DFID) in five countries in 2002, Older Citizen Monitoring has helped some of the most disadvantaged people hold governments to account for the fulfilment of their human rights, enabling them to communicate directly with decision makers – sometimes for the first time in their lives.  Read this report to learn about the achievements and learning from our Older Citizen Monitoring activities.
