"Older women's lived experiences of gendered ageism"

RESEARCH BRIEF
Older women are an integral part of our communities and of wider society. Yet as women age, they often report feeling invisible, and can face widespread discrimination based on both their age and gender.

This brief presents the voices of 18 older women from Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda. It describes their lived experiences of gendered ageism (discrimination according to gender as well as older age) and what changes they would like to see from those in positions of power – governments, UN agencies, civil society organisations, and donors – to take action to address gendered ageism.
