HelpAge USA Welcomes Three New Board Members

HelpAge USA, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing the rights, dignity, and participation of older people around the world, is pleased to announce the appointment of three distinguished professionals to its Board of Directors.
 
Appointed in October, Richard R. Bebout, Kate de Mul, and Atalaya Sergi bring a wealth of experience, strategic insight, and a shared commitment to the HelpAge USA mission. Their expertise will strengthen HelpAge’s work to ensure that older people are visible, valued, and supported in communities and humanitarian crises around the world.
Richard R. Bebout, PhD, currently serves as Senior Director of Behavioral Health at Unity Health Care, a Federally Qualified Health Center serving more than 75,000 individuals each year across the District of Columbia. He has held leadership roles at the DC Department of Behavioral Health, including Senior Deputy and the agency’s first Chief of Crisis Services, and has published extensively on innovative approaches to mental health, trauma recovery, and homelessness. He earned his doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and lives in Washington, DC.
Kate de Mul is a Managing Director at General Atlantic, a global growth equity firm, where she oversees investor servicing capabilities. Prior to joining General Atlantic in 2024, Kate spent 16 years at KKR leading its global client services team and previously worked at Goldman Sachs. She holds an M.B.A. from MIT Sloan School of Management and a B.A. from Williams College.
Atalaya Sergi has dedicated her career to building bridges across generations, championing the value of older adults, and creating systems that enable them to contribute to thriving communities. She currently serves as Executive Director of the Albemarle Foundation for Education and was previously National Director of AmeriCorps Seniors, managing a $230 million portfolio to expand opportunities for older adults nationwide. Earlier in her career, she held leadership roles at Jumpstart for Young Children, fostering intergenerational engagement and workforce development programs. Atalaya also serves on several national advisory committees on aging, volunteerism, and workforce development.
