Hurricane Melissa, a Category 5 storm, has devastated communities across the Caribbean. Older people are among the most at risk, with many living alone, facing mobility challenges, and losing their homes and livelihoods. HelpAge USA and our local partners are providing emergency relief including food, medicine, and shelter to ensure older people are not left behind.
Hurricane Melissa, one of the most powerful storms ever recorded in the Caribbean, has devastated communities across Jamaica, Haiti, and other countries. Thousands of homes have been destroyed, infrastructure has collapsed, and older people are among those most at risk.
When disaster strikes, older people are too often left behind. Many live alone or in hard-to-reach areas, while others were unable to evacuate before the storm hit. Older people have lost access to food, medicine, and clean water and are now struggling to meet their basic needs.
HelpAge is working with our global network partners to make sure older people are not forgotten:
In El Salvador, our partner PRO-VIDA is providing emergency food, health services, and essential supplies for older people in rural areas.
In Haiti, our partner Fondation Nouvelle Grand d’Ansé (FNGA) is supporting older people facing the greatest barriers to recovery.
In Jamaica, our partner CADENA is assessing needs on the ground and delivering relief where it’s needed most.
Your gift today will help provide emergency food, water, medicine, and shelter, and ensure that older people can recover with dignity.
